As a person living with Fibrous Dysplasia and McCune–Albright Syndrome (FD/MAS), Bia became the first Brazilian advocate formally recognized by the FD/MAS Alliance — the leading American patient organization for this ultra-rare bone disease. She represents the Brazilian patient community in both national and international settings, bridging the gap between English-language medical research and the Portuguese-speaking world. Her advocacy work includes public speaking, social media outreach, patient education, and cross-border policy dialogue on rare disease access and rights.

Invisible Beings: An Overview of People with Disabilities' Circumstances in Japan

This article examines the structural and cultural invisibility of people with disabilities in Japanese society — from inadequate public infrastructure to the stigma that keeps many disabled people out of public life. Drawing on policy analysis and fieldwork, it asks what it actually means to live with a disability in the world's most aged society.
